ALYSSA
In private collection in Gardner, Kansas
Watercolor - 11 x 15 inches
140 lb. Arches cold pressed paper
This painting set me on the path of watercolor portrait painting. Previously I had completed three "step by step" portraits in an instructional book by Jan Kunz; but never before had I attempted to do one independently. When I saw the result of this effort, I began to believe that I could indeed be a portrait painter.
The painting was based on a photo taken of my granddaughter Alyssa at the beauty shop. I was entranced by the simple beauty of her facial structure as she sat with her hair wrapped in a towel and felt compelled to attempt this portrait.
