Honorable Mention - 2009 Juried Members' Show

The subjects for this piece were my eldest son Walt and his wife Cindy. It was based on a photo taken at their wedding reception. This was the first piece I entered in a juried show, and I was thrilled to receive an Honorable Mention.
This was a very significant piece for me in another regard. Shortly after making the commitment to myself in 2008 to pursue art with a passion, I required an emergency surgery on my left eye. For all practical purposes I was blind in my left eye for the next year. I felt that if I set my art aside I would never have the confidence to return to it, so I painted my first attempt of this piece with one-eyed vision. Though it turned out quite well, I decided to make a 2nd attempt as I learned quite a lot while working on it. This is the 2nd version.
